UK online dating market was estimated to be worth £150 million in 2014.

Internet couples tend to be a better fit than those who meet by traditional means, according to new research.

A study of 2,300 people between 18 and 34 years old reveals that 39% met through friends, 22% social situations, 18% work, 10% online dating, 6% social media.

Members of dating services who share photos of themselves laughing have over 3 times more chances of communicating with other members.

It is estimated that the industry is worth more than £2bn globally. In the UK, it is worth £300m a year, according to the UK’s Online Dating Association (ODA)

Interestingly, older daters spend more time looking at the sites than younger ones – they also go on more dates than any other group.

Over the last two years there has been a 4% jump in those aged between 35 and 44 using online dating and a further 5% jump between 45 and 54 year olds.
