Members of dating services who share photos of themselves laughing have over 3 times more chances of communicating with other members.
It is estimated that the industry is worth more than £2bn globally. In the UK, it is worth £300m a year, according to the UK’s Online Dating Association (ODA)
Interestingly, older daters spend more time looking at the sites than younger ones – they also go on more dates than any other group.
Over the last two years there has been a 4% jump in those aged between 35 and 44 using online dating and a further 5% jump between 45 and 54 year olds.
In a new study performed by the respected research centre Pew:
- A majority of people now say online dating is a good way to meet people
- More and more over 40s are dating online
- 5% of those married or in committed relationships now say they met online
- One in five online daters have asked for help with their profile
- A third of online daters still haven’t met somebody in real life yet
In last Pew Research Center survey:
The share of 18- to 24-year-olds who use online dating has roughly tripled from 10% in 2013 to 27% today.
12% of 55- to 64-year-olds report ever using an online dating site or mobile dating app versus only 6% in 2013.
